Schiaparelli SS’22: Popculture x Parisian Craft
Artistic Director, Daniel Roseberry continues to successfully enhance Sciaparelli’s house and name without any compromise. Thinking of the woman behind this maison, Elsa Schiaparelli’s identity was modified as Roseberry quotes “psycho chic”. Who is the Sciaparelli woman when she’s not serving?
This walking contradiction of a line embodies the versatility of woman. Roseberry cohesively shares the duality of woman inspired by Elsa’s personalities- Elsa in the city, Elsa on holiday and Seaside Elsa.
“This was a woman fascinated by the dawning of the technological age, of advances in fabric and engineering, of the avant-garde in film and art. She was a patron of the arts, and an artist herself, but she was also a scientist of a kind, someone who celebrated innovation and progress of all kinds: creative, social cultural.”
City Elsa is suggested by their own twist on the classic 70’s- era french ready to wear language- horsebit closures and re-imagined hardware. The classic mini skirt and jacket set is remade in white denim and trimmed in patent leather. In addition, Roseberry added a floral print that is remixed into a slouchy sequin pantsuit.
On the other hand, seaside Elsa is not just about a physical destination, but inspired by the vaycay state of mind- opening up the versatility in looks in this part of the collection. Creating pieces for a literal great escape, we see fantasy swimwear in what looks like a Wes Anderson vibed swimming onesie, with primary colored stripes styled with your classic beach umbrella head set, accessorized with iconic golden Schiaparelli body part accessories- but Roseberry also keeps in mind of what the woman is serving when shes not laying on the Mediterranean coastline. She remains who she is even when no one is watching.
“She’s refined—but barbaric. Chic—but a little vulgar. Conservative—but uninhibited. Tailored—but also relaxed. Private—but also performative. These dualities were what made Elsa who she was, but they’re also what makes every woman who wears Schiaparelli who she is as well. She’s irreducible, and because of that, inimitable.”
