TikTok Users Respond to Abortion Ban

THE OVERTURN OF ROE V. WADE ANGERS FELLOW USERS ON TIKTOK.

On June 24th, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court officially overturned the constitutional right to an abortion by reversing Roe v. Wade. This decision made many people so angry that they moved it over to TikTok to address their concerns.

Olivia Vitale, also known as model and music producer Xëna, holds up a sign during a protest march that says, “If I wanted the government in my womb, I’d fuck a Senator!” Clips of that same protest are uploaded on Vitale’s TikTok accounts @chroniclesofolivia and @chroniclesofoliviabackup.

There is a video of Jayla Walton — model, actress, content creator, and sister of Euphoria star Javon Walton — voicing her troubling concerns about the abortion ban. Though the video of Jayla was filmed on her Instagram live, it’s shared around by several TikTok users. In the video, Jayla says, “The abortion ban is not [going to] stop abortions. It is just stopping safe abortions. It’s [going to] be hurting a lot of girls [and] a lot of women.”

One TikTok user who goes by @aesthetic_diamonder has published a mini-series of clips that show which celebrities are either pro-choice or pro-life.

Here are the celebrities who are against the abortion ban: Ariana Grande, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Chris Evans, Kendall Jenner, Jennifer Lawrence, Mark Ruffalo, Harry Styles, Lizzo, Taylor Swift, Maya Hawke, Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Dylan O’Brien, Megan Thee Stallion, Melanie Martinez, Justin Bieber, Hailey Bieber, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Mariah Carey, Halsey, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Shawn Mendes, Reese Witherspoon, Miley Cyrus, and Michael B. Jordan.

Here are the celebrities who support the abortion ban: Donald Trump, Andrea Bocelli, Candance Cameron Bure, Celine Dion, Martin Sheen, Joy Villa, and Patricia Heaton.

Speaking of pro-lifers, one TikTok user named J.C. Carter says, “I’ve never seen so many people upset at the idea that they can’t kill [their] babies. I’ve seen gay men get mad at this, and I’m trying to figure out what the hell gay men [are] mad [about]. They can’t even have babies.”

While abortion is sensitive and controversial, the abortion ban must keep opening discussions on social media. While the future of abortion rights in the U.S. is uncertain, the only hope is to keep advocating for women, girls, and every person with a uterus.
