A behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming “Barbie” movie: Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken

“Come on Barbie, let’s go party” has come to life.

The doll of everyone’s dreams has come to life thanks to Australian actress Margot Robbie’s uncanny resemblance to the iconic toy. And what’s Barbie without her perfectly-chiseled male sidekick and love interest? Ryan Gosling is almost unrecognizable as Ken with bleach-blonde hair.

The live-action film, set to be released on July 21st next year, won’t be like any other frivolous rendition of a beloved children’s character. The script has been crafted by the renowned writer and director Greta Gerwig and her partner Noah Baumbach and is sure to put a twist on the story of the blonde-haired plastic icon and her partner.

Although it is not really known what the film will be about, we do know one thing that has brought in more buzz about the film: the outfits. In the initial teaser images of the two leading cast members, Robbie is seen in Barbie’s classic pink convertible, wearing a blue and white ensemble with a blue and white polka-dotted headband wrapped around her perfect blonde hair. Ken, on the other hand, was shown to be wearing a denim set with an open sleeveless denim jacket and jeans with “KEN” underwear poking above the waistband. As more images were released, we could see Barbie and Ken strolling down the street of the set in western-themed outfits, by far the most talked-about outfits. Robbie’s outfit featured bright pink bell-bottom pants with a star pattern adorning the bells and a matching pink vest on top. A pink bandana ascot and white cowboy hat finished off the outfit. Gosling’s character wore all black with his button-down shirt decorated with white fringe and embroidery along the shoulders and neckline. A matching pink bandana ascot and white cowboy hat were also sported by Gosling.

One of the latest snaps of the actors on set in Barbie-themed outfits shows Robbie and Gosling decked out in seemingly 80s-themed workout attire, complete with neon colors and patterns. Robbie was seen wearing a neon patterned bodysuit over a pair of neon pink biker shorts. Her character also donned a matching visor and neon yellow elbow and knee pads and roller blades. Gosling’s character wore the same pattern with a sleeveless button-down shirt, a hot pink shirt underneath, and matching patterned shorts. Ken is also sporting the same pads and rollerblades.

Award-winning costume designer Jacqueline Durran is behind all of the Barbie looks for the film, and is once again partnering with Gerwig as she did for the film “Little Women.” Alongside a slew of talented directors and producers, the film is also rumored to star several big names such as Will Ferrell, Kate McKinnon, and Issa Rae.
