Family Feud Host turned Fashion Figure
Tell ‘01 Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake that Steve Harvey is calling!
Harvey is bringing back denim-on-denim and we are here for it!
Only genius fashion stylists have the vision and fearlessness to pair denim-on-denim together in one outfit and Elly Karamoh, Steve Harvey’s stylist, is the one to do so.
The 64-year-old comedian and TV personality has been tapping into the fashion world, sparking memes and garnering overall praise from social media for his latest ensembles.
While the praise is thrown to Harvey, the man behind the bold, creative looks is 28-year-old Elly Karamoh, who first started working with the Family Feud host in 2019. The first outfit to garner attention on the Internet was a three-piece Dolce & Gabbana denim suit paired with tan suede chelsea boots. The ‘Canadian tuxedo’ was a well-tailored classic and was our first introduction to Steve Harvey exploring new fashion grounds.
“It was really a bold look but Mr. Harvey, we really trust each other now,” said Karamoh on Harvey’s three-piece denim combo for USA Today.
“He knows I’m not going to put him in nothing too crazy, he just owns it!”
Karamoh says that his selections are inspired by the statement that he wants to imprint on the world, in that no one should be boxed into any category: women, men or kids. There are no rules to fashion.
Elly Karamoh was born and raised in Paris, France and moved to the U.S. in 2005. Karamoh started small by styling friends and eventually got hired as an atelier in Atlanta where he made custom menswear.
“That’s when I really fell in love with menswear. I really loved working with older guys because they were more engaged with my love for the sophistication,” said Karamoh for Essence.
His love for sophistication, sartorialism and class influences the bold new style that we see in Mr. Harvey today.
“When I presented Mr. Harvey with more high fashion, I wanted to increase it little by little,” said Karamoh for Essence.
On Oct. 13, Harvey wore a bright blue leather jacket with the collar popped up, a black turtleneck sweater, black leather pants and shoes with a sandy brown rim. Karamoh called it The Big B’s - with Mr. Harvey sporting Berluti and Bottega Veneta.
Harvey has always been known to rock colors and big suits. The style at the time Harvey started his comedy career often emphasized conservative navy, black and tan suits. Harvey often strayed from the norm with his silkened pinstripes, peach or yellow suits and even green-colored suits.
“A lot of people will say Steve Harvey is big suits and color but I was intrigued by that. I was intrigued by the ‘Kings of Comedy’ color and the freedom and the boldness that he had,” said Karamoh for USA Today.
Karamoh says there are limitations in styling Mr. Harvey. He never wants the Family Feud host to look like he’s trying too hard and is always thinking about his age and his audience.
“At one point, he felt like society put him in a box as a businessman so he had to become more conservative. And I said: ‘at the end of the day, you are a superstar!” said Karamoh for Essence.
