Hot or Not: Celebrity Halloween Wrap-Up 2021
With Halloween right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to channel our inner celebrity for inspiration.
Now that parties, premieres and red carpets are back to being a a thing again, we here at Kode have big expectations for this year’s roundup of celebrities’ post-pandemic costumes.
Our Libra queen, Doja Cat, celebrated her 26th year around the sun threw a underwater themed costume party dressed as the stunning Princess Kida of Disney’s Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Styled by Brett Alan Nelson, the lady of the Libra season donned a fabulous periwinkle blue two-piece ensemble with a layered platinum blonde wig and gold jewelry. Of course many starts were in attendance with the spectacular year Doja Cat is having, that this may have honestly been the party of the year. We had Billie Eilish attend as a lobster, Winnie Harlow and Karreuche as what seems like underwater mermaids in their sheer green gowns, accessorized with netted hair accessories and aquatic shells and starfish, and Teyana Taylor as a shark!
Outside the party of the year, some stars took it upon themselves to debut their halloween spirit through promo on instagram. Haley Kiyoko dressed up as Kang Sae-byeok from Squid Games for her Halloween contest from her fragrance line Hue Fragrance. Now if you haven’t watched Squid Games yet then what is you doing?! This smash-hit survival drama has dominated Netflix and will most likely be this year’s Halloween scene.
Now we can’t keep the spot light off the new it couple Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker who were amongst the first in Hollywood to debut their costumes this year. The newly engaged couple have had a head start on spooky season since September, taking things up a notch by dressing up as the iconic couple: Sid and Nancy from the 1986 film. Kourtney shared photos last Friday of their punk rock-inspired looks. Kourtney, or Nancy Spungen, wore a see-through mesh shirt, black bra and leather pants paired with a curly blonde wig. Barker, or Sid Vicious, donned a spiky black wig, leather jacket and pants. Barker was so committed to the Vicious look that he even covered up his neck and face tattoos!
But amongst the first to slay it for halloween this year is Houston Hottie Megan the Stallion as Pinhead from Hellraiser. Megan gave the character a sexy upgrade sporting a thin leather bodysuit and chaps over a white catsuit while of course totally bald and painted white! We don’t know who Megan Thee Stallion is anymore, call her Megan Thee Hellraiser!
However, the best celebrity Halloween costumes of all time run the gamut in terms of style, subject and execution. For example, some of the greatest ones of our time are fresh takes on classic characters.
Let’s throw it back to 2019 to the West family. Kim Kardashian West, Kanye West and their children North, Chicago, Saint and Psalm dressed as The Flintstones in 2019. Kim went as Betty Rubble and the West children channeled Wilma, Pebbles, Bamm-Bamm and Fred Flintstone. And in true Ye form, Kanye West fully committed to his character, Dino, in a completely covered from head-to-toe inflatable version of the dinosaur.
Supermodel Anokyai who shot to fame after being discovered at Howard University’s homecoming consistently serves during this time of the month. The Sudanese beauty won Halloween 2018 when she took on a hyper-realistic take on Neytiri from the 2009 blockbuster movie, Avatar. Yai has an affinity for iconic heroines because the following year, she dressed as Storm from Marvel’s X-Men to Heidi Klum’s star-studded Halloween bash.
Let’s not forget Heidi Klum’s favorite time of the year! Always taking the W’s as Halloween is her favorite holiday, this supermodel, tv host, producer and businesswoman never disappoints in her full transformations. In 2015 she quite literally transformed into the cartoon character of Jessica Rabbit from Who Framed Roger Rabbit? The Queen of Halloween had us all shook when she showed up as an amazingly rendered Jessica Rabbit. It took nearly 10 hours to complete the look but all the meticulous attention to details definitely paid off as Klum was unrecognizable through the sexy fictional rabbit’s figure. Some of her most memorable costumes have also been a cartoon rendered version of Fiona from Shrek, the werewolf from Michael Jackson’s Thriller music video and when she “cloned” herself.
Now where are all our boo’d up readers at? Don’t think a Halloween recap is complete without even mentioning the most iconic couples who remind all the single people why it sucks to not be cuffed during this time of the year.
The Game of Thrones star and late y2k Disney heartthrob dressed up as Gomez and Morticia Addams from The Addams Family. Sophie Turner wore a figure-hugging black gown with a plunging neckline and high leg slit. Her look was topped off with a long black wig and dark, sultry makeup. As the gothic patriarch, Joe Jonas donned a sleek pinstriped suit paired with a slicked-back hairstyle. The disembodied hand on his shoulder who represents the character, Thing, was the cherry on top for this couple’s Halloween 2018 look.
We can’t forget about our Princess of Pop and our angel Mac Miller. In 2017, former lovebirds Ariana Grande and Mac Miller dressed up as Mugatu and Katinka from Zoolander. Grande donned a short, fringed wig with a red bodysuit and a matching beaded choker to decorate her neck. Miller wore a frizzy blonde wig and beard, sparkly black sunglasses, and a red and blue jacket to portray Mugatu. In 2016, the couple dressed as Suzy Bishop and Sam from Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom. They also debuted the oh-so-hot Matrix look in the same year, with both Miller and Grande wearing the classic long black, leather trench coat and thin shades.
Last but certainly not least, we can’t forget how Lizzo had us buzzing last year! The Truth Hurts singer dressed as the pesky fly that sat on top of former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence’s head during the vice presidential debate last October.
“FLYYYY AF!” Lizzo captioned the hilarious photos of herself on Instagram.
Share with Kode, are you going to be hot or not for Halloween this year?!
