KODE: Tell us a bit about your childhood and living in Mexico as a child.
XENIA: I had a very normal childhood growing up in Cancun, Mexico. Because we are a beach town, I was always next to the water, swimming, diving, and exploring the jungle with my friends. I grew a love for rocks and would often go to local rock shows on the weekends. I was a very academically driven student with a full-on schedule of extracurricular activities like dancing, math club, and sports as well. I even tutored my peers in chemistry when I was around 14 years old.
KODE: Did you always envision yourself as a model?
XENIA: I had experience as a child with some photoshoots, but never thought it would become a career! I was a very artistic child, did ballet for 7 years, and did plenty of other artistic activities. I loved being on stage so when I got the opportunity, I took it.
KODE: Tell us a bit about how you got started in the industry.
XENIA: I was in my last year of university, and I was approached by a couple of friends who were photographers and asked me If I would like to apply to a local agency back in my hometown Cancun, Mexico. I was very hesitant at the beginning but finally decided to contact them. After some months I was approached by now my mother agency New Icon Models to start a career and move to Mexico City.
KODE: Would you say it's been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you've faced along the way?
XENIA: I’m very thankful that I always worked with professionals who took me seriously and gave me the advice to succeed, but it wasn’t a smooth road. Moving to a different city by myself was the biggest challenge. Starting over in a new city, with no friends or family was difficult, but incredibly rewarding. You become independent in many ways and start enjoying all the trips and new contacts you are making. The other big challenge is confidence, you must be able to irradiate it and feel comfortable in your own body. Being yourself and authentic is your biggest asset, don’t forget…
KODE: Have you had a favorite brand to work with, what brands are on your bucket list?
XENIA: I have many brands and teams that I’ve absolutely loved working with, but I can say working for Cosmopolitan USA was incredible. Also, I did a commercial for OLD NAVY that was shot at Paramount Pictures in Los Angeles, with an A-list cast, such a rewarding and amazing day. I would love to work with COVERGIRL or MAYBELLINE, definitely!!
KODE: Where do you see yourself in 5 years, 10 years?
XENIA: Probably owning a business or have changed careers into International Sales Development. I’m a huge fan of tech and traveling so maybe something that combines both and living in some part of California (LOVE the sunshine). I would also love to have a family, a husband, maybe a kid..who knows? It’s the future!
