The Problem with Shein

Shein all day, every day! Said no one ever.

It all started on a glorious day in June on TikTok. The usual filters and trends were going around until one of the many serious allegations about Shein came up. Where they overwork their employees and enforce child labor.

TikToker Miyah Chanel posted a video to show if she found any signs of factory work abuse from Shein. After going through several clothing tags, she finds a tag on her most recent purchase from Shein that says, "NEED YOUR HELP." Coincidence? We think not.

As more people post videos on the allegation with the same revelation as Chanel, Shein goes on TikTok to deny the allegation. They say, "[We intended] to remind customers to help soften this fabric by using a softener when washing the garment for the first time. The fabric is digitally printed, a process which reduces the use of water, as opposed to traditional, water-intensive textile printing. However, some [misunderstandings] have been caused by the label's wording. We also want to make it clear that we have a strict code of conduct for suppliers which forbids them to use forced labor. We want to be honest with our consumers, and we thank our customers for their feedback and support."

That's a big stretch for a fast-fashion company that is supposed to promote honest and moral ethics to their customers.

Another allegation about Shein that's been going around TikTok is that they steal designs from small artists and businesses. Small designers and businesses that have been notoriously affected by Shein include Dev's Doodles Co, Transformations by Tracy, and Salté Designs.

Unsurprisingly enough, Shein has no originality or creativity. Therefore, they continue to steal designs from those that put their blood, sweat, and tears to get their hard work out there.

The insane thing about Shein is that they will never care about who they emotionally and psychologically abuse to maintain their so-called sustainable business reputation. Because like every other popular fast-fashion company, all Shein cares about is money. As long as they have all the money in the world, that's all that will ever matter to them.

Shein continues to act innocent and like nothing negative happened as they continue to market and advertise their clothes on their Instagram and TikTok pages. In the meantime, their longtime shoppers must be aware of the controversies revolving around the brand. Whether they continue to buy their products or not.
