Adidas Originals and designer Sean Wotherspoon release a Hot Wheels collection
The toy car brand reimagined with the Adidas aesthetic.
Growing up, there was nothing like collecting hot wheels. Aside from the massive collection of Legos housed in endless bins in storage and playrooms across the country, there was another toy that no one could forget about: tiny replicas of famous muscle cars, sports cars, all the way down to your average sedan or even a Tesla, all under the same moniker, Hot Wheels. But for those of us who grew up with them and maybe even religiously collected them, we only knew them as cars and nothing else. And yet, the fashion world had different ideas in mind.
American designer and artist Sean Wotherspoon has notably given Hot Wheels a brand new look through brand new clothes in collaboration with Adidas Originals. In a recent release, the designer and the iconic sports and leisure brand worked together to release pieces of a Hot Wheels collection. Wotherspoon crafted some incredible artwork reminiscent of the toy brand, one design looking like a giant flaming sun drawn straight from the 60s peace movement, with the Hot Wheels logo printed throughout. The collection features a variety of items that connect with the brand, such as a typical Adidas Originals three-stripes crewneck jersey, inscribed with Wotherspoon's signature and logo, and a pair of Adidas Superturf Adventure sneakers. There is also a bomber-style jacket, a bucket hat, a canvas tote bag, a t-shirt, and 90s-inspired aqua blue-colored flowy shorts.
In an interview with Adidas, Wotherspoon talked about how he’s always been around Hot Wheels and grew up with the toy, passed down from relatives. Along with the release of his collection, Wotherspoon also created his own Hot Wheels car; a Color Shifter Deora II that changes color when dipped in water.
