Barbie vs oppenheimer : Movie debate of the Year

Post covid, production companies scramble to re-invent and re-image new cinema. This year has given us drop after drop with anticipated films filled with all-star cast and all new stories.

The height of conversation began back in 2022, when paparazzi pics showed us the leaked images of Margot Robbie as the beloved Barbie, and Cillian Murphy as the mysterious Robert J. Oppenheimer. The big named directors, Greta Gerwig (Barbie) and Christopher Nolan (Oppenheimer) both announced their much anticipated films will both be premiering on the same day, July 21st 2023.

Following this announcement fans began an internet craze, with many arguing which movie will be better and hashtagging which one they will be attending first. Several memes and Tiktoks surfaced to show off outfits movie goers will be wearing to represent their chosen film. 

Whether this scenario is a genius PR strategy, or a marketing nightmare, fans everywhere continue to speculate and relay their thoughts as more trailers and movie tidbits leak. Both films armed with an extensive A-list level cast and crew, the title for “Movie of the year” is going to be one for the Hollywood books.
